Rathpeacon GAA History
Rathpeacon G.A.A. was founded in 1943 and competed for several years in the city division before going out of existence. The club was revived in 1960 and again played in the city division. Initially, the club competed in Minor and Junior levels but regraded to Junior B Championships in 1961. Football was the stronger code and after winning the the City Junior B Football Championship in 1962, the club was promoted to the A grade. Rathpeacon contested the 1964 City Junior A football final only to be beaten by Na Piarsaigh by a single point. The footballers redeemed themselves a year later by beating Mayfield in the McSweeney cup final, winning their first Junior A title.

Many of the players played with the Seandún divisonal teams, most notably John Murphy, Jim Twomey, Pat Joe Sheehan, Pascal Goggin, Denis Murphy, Liam McAuliffe, and John Joe Kearney. Liam McAuliffe played with the Cork Minor hurling team in 1966 which lost the All-Ireland to Wexford after a replay.

The lack of youth coming through the ranks and the small population finally forced the club to fold once again in 1973. The club was re-founded in 1984 and after struggling intially, success came in winning the 1990 Seandún cup. The hurlers reached the County Hurling final in 1990, unfortunately losing to Harbour Rovers. The club won its first and only County championship in 1991. Our footballers beat Awbeg Rovers on a scoreline of 0-10 to 1-6.

The club has contested two football county championship finals and two hurling county championship finals since the turn of the Millenium. We have won three City football championships and two City hurling championships over the last twenty years and continue to do well each year in a tough city division and even tougher county division.

Since, the early 2000s, all of our boys play underage hurling and football with Blarney and rejoin Rathpeacon when they reach adult level. In recent years, the numbers of players returning has increased considerably ensuring the sustainability of our GAA teams. A big success was achieved in 2025 when the Blarney-Rathpeacon u21 footballers, a joint Blarney-Rathpeacon team, won the Muskerry championship, a first ever u21 title for Rathpeacon.

Rathpeacon LGFA History
Rathpeacon LGFA was founded in 2022 and plays in the East Cork LGFA division. Year one was challenging as our girls got used to playing football against well established teams at u14 level. Despite many big defeats, the girls enjoyed the positive environment created by our coaches and results on the field gradually improved. 

Since our 2022 start, our playing numbers have increased every year. We now field LGFA teams from adult level down to u5s and we have a very fun loving Mothers & Others team.

Our focus has been on participation and player retention. We work hard on creating an enjoyable and fun environment for all players. We have completed the Gaelic for Girls and the Gaelic for Teens programmes. Our girls actively partake in the East Cork player development programmes, PDP.

In 2024 we had our first on field successes. Our u15s won our first ever title when they won the East Cork Feile. Later that year the u14s won our first and only East Cork Championship and the u13s won the East Cork Autumn league plate. In 2025, we retained East Cork Feile title and we won our first ever county titles: our U13 team beat our neighbours Delaneys and a few weeks later, our U16s beat Kilshannig. 

A big highlight from 2025 was a highly successful trip to St Joseph's in London. Our U16 team travelled to London for a football blitz, the aim of  which was to provide an incentive to retain players to adult level. 

Another highlight from 2025 was when Eabha Lynch became the first Rathpeacon player to make an East Cork team when she made the U15 team. Eabha then went on to represent the Cork U16A football team as vice Captain in 2026. 

2026 has been very busy. We fielded minor, u21 and junior teams for the very first time. The East Cork Feile was won for the 3rd year in a row and several Rathpeacon teams have reached to later stages of several county championships.
